In 2005, the City of Bethlehem began initial plans for a public space on the Southside between Third and Fourth Streets called the Greenway.

In 2009, Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem opened near the site of the old steel stacks. Part of their marketing and outreach initiative included running regular buses in from New York City’s Chinatown.

In 2011, Bethlehem locals started noticing an influx of Chinese tourists along the greenway. The face on the street had changed.

In 2012, Lehigh University, in conjunction with the City of Bethlehem, began construction of a Chinese Harmony Pavilion on the Greenway.

In 2013, Touchstone Theatre, in collaboration with Moravian College, Lehigh University, and Dr. William Sun of Shanghai Theatre Academy, began work on a new community-based project based on the influx of Asian population in our city.
