From Jp – One Small Step for a Theatre Artist…

Arrived in Beijing an hour later then planned, tired and a little sore from the 14-hour flight, but happily welcomed by this guy:IMG_1517

In the minutes just outside the airport, we’re reminded how similar yet slightly “off” things are in another country… like a parallel universe (“Fringe” anyone?).  We’ve got about an hour drive to the “Temple of Heaven” and the traffic is heavy.

The cars on the highway vary from familiar-looking to very odd, and there is a lot of honking. It doesn’t seem so much like an American honk (usually accompanied by a hand gesture) but more like its own entire vocabulary. Motorists communicate as they sneak around one another on the shoulder, but it completely lacks the American hometown aggression.

We arrive at the Temple of Heaven and spend an hour exploring. Behold…ttnnn11890330n8

People enjoyed some low stakes gambling outside the Temple in what’s called the Long Corridor.  temple-ciel-00370
